Annual Report 2009
March 11, 2009 — On behalf of the Gibsons & District Library Foundation Board, I am pleased to present a summary of our activities from April 2008 to March 2009.
The Board held three Regular Meetings and two Special Meetings, as well as two Working Sessions to plan for the "Lights for Literacy" campaign and the "A Way With Words" event. We also met with the Library Board in June 2008, again in October 2008 for the Faye Wightman presentation and we participated in the November 1, 2008 "Meet the Candidates" event.
The 2008 "Lights for Literacy" campaign was another great success with two corporate sponsors, raising $2,633.12 for the purchase of large print and audio books. The Directors also spent several hours in "meet and greet" sessions at the Library, explaining the campaign and increasing public awareness of the Library Foundation. Thirty-six participants enjoyed the March 1, 2009 "A Way With Words" event and with the inclusion of donor pledges, we raised a total of $2,400.
Our website continues to be our main communication link with the community and there was a slight increase in activity from last year, with an average of 66 hits per month.
Other initiatives completed by the Board included the opening of a brokerage account to assist with the receipt of stocks, bonds and flow through shares, a presentation by Faye Wightman, President and CEO of the Vancouver Foundation on fundraising ideas and a revision of the Library Foundation Bylaws.
Donations to the Library Foundation totalled $7,460.00.
The Library Foundation donated $3,650.00 to the Library Board for the purchase of a disc repair machine for DVDs, CDs and games, floor pillows for the Children's Section and a contribution towards the expansion of the audio media book collection. Another $3,000.00 donation was presented to the Library Board in February 2009.
