Lynda Coote, Chair
Lynda emigrated from England in 1974, finally settling in Gibsons fourteen years ago. She is a self-employed Professional Organizer, who combines her unique talent for organizing paper, people and time with her extensive experience in local government, health care, corporate and small business. Since her early volunteering in the Guiding and Scouting movement, she has held executive positions for the United Way, Gibsons Yacht Club, Gibsons Chamber of Commerce, Sea Cavalcade and the Gibsons Landing Sunday Market.
Patricia Stuart, Vice-Chair
B. Ed. 1969 UBC double music major. Patricia taught elementary school in Vancouver and Prince George before moving to the Sunshine Coast. She has sixteen years experience as a board member and was elected as a School Trustee for nine years and Chair of School District #46 Sunshine Coast for five years. She has served as Vice Chair of the Gibsons and District Public Library for four years. She has also served on many volunteer boards and organizations including President, Prince George Community Arts Council and Director of the Prince George Symphony (1999-2002). Currently she is Chair of the Gibsons Family Network, Secretary of Sunshine Coast Special Olympics as well as Vice Chair of the Library Foundation.
Vern Giesbrecht, Secretary
Vern Giesbrecht has been volunteering on behalf of the Gibsons & District Public Library for many years. After serving on the Library Board for eight years, three as chair, he was a member of Friends of the Library for two years before becoming one of the originators of the Library Foundation. He is currently Secretary of the Library Foundation Board. During his time as an English Instructor and Literacy Coordinator at Capilano College, Vern organized five "Scrabble for Literacy" tournaments that raised about $3,000 for literacy projects at the Sunshine Coast campus and Sechelt Public Library. In February, 2006, he created four word games (using Scrabble tiles) for the Library Foundation's first fund-raiser, "A Way With Words."
Albert F. Reeve, Treasurer
Bert Reeve grew up in Northern Ontario completing high school at North Bay. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in geological engineering at Michigan Technological University in 1961 and worked as a self employed mining geologist, based in Vancouver from 1963 to 1996. He and his wife Linda have been residents of Gibsons for the past 35 years. Bert is a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers of BC, a past member of the Gibsons Library board and served on the President's Advisory Council for the UBC Library from 2002 to 2006.
Connie Barber, Director
Connie Barber retired to the Coast in 2001 after careers in teaching, small business and support work at the college in North Vancouver. Connie earned a B. Ed. from UBC and taught in North Vancouver secondary schools before leaving to raise two sons and a daughter. When they started school, she and her husband opened a retail business, which they owned and operated for 12 years. Her most recent working days at the college and her volunteer activities in retirement reflect her dedication to lifelong learning. Connie belongs to two book clubs, is a Trustee of the Gibsons Library, a director of Eldercollege and chair of the Bursary Society of the University Women’s Club. As a grandmother, Connie enjoys having visits from her grandson and granddaughter who live on Gambier Island. She moved here when they started school and credits them with getting her involved with the community.
John McNevin, Director
John McNevin, a long time resident of the Sunshine Coast and former Councillor of the Town of Gibsons has been supportive of the library since before the new building was accomplished. John is active in many community organizations and was instrumental in the Dakota Ridge ski project.
Library Board Capital Requests
2009
$5,570 for the purchase of three barcode readers/scanners for book processing, a gel mat for the staff working behind the circulation desk and Screenweave sun/heat blinds for the south facing windows of the library.
2008
$3,650 for the purchase of a disc repair machine for DVDs, CDs and games, floor pillows for the Children's Section and a contribution towards the expansion of the audio media book collection.
August 10, 2007
$7,460 to the Library Board for the purchase of fifty copies of the new Harry Potter book, a book check unit for use with the new materials security system, two receipt printers for the materials check out and five bistro tables and chairs.
July 28, 2006
$5,750 for the purchase of a multimedia projector, multimedia cabinet, replacement of the window covering in the Mainil Room and four leather armchairs for the reading room.
July 4, 2005
$9,600 for the purchase of the Envisionware PC Booking software and replacement of six bar code scanners.
October 2004
$4,170 for the purchase of an Online Public Access Computer tables, fixed periodical shelving and fifty copies of a book to support the "Coast reads One Book" project.
